How to use AnyDesk

AnyDesk is a free, light-weight program that allows someone to access your computer and control your mouse remotely. If you have Windows 10, however, there is no need to download it. Use the built-in Quick Assist instead. To set up an appointment, visit the Contact Jo page. Before the appointment, follow these steps:

  1. Click here to download AnyDesk for Windows or click here for Mac
  2. Open AnyDesk. Usually, the download will appear at the bottom of the page, and you can click on it or click Save and then Run
  3. Find your 9-digit ID and email it to me at jskerr@joscomputerworks.com. Your ID is on the left side of the window (circled in red in the photo). You can then close AnyDesk. When closing, you may be asked if you would like to install AnyDesk. This is not necessary—click No
  4. At the time of the appointment, open AnyDesk again. Once I enter your ID on my end, the window shown below will appear. Make sure it has my picture and it says Jo’s Computer Works (circled in yellow in the picture). Also, close any programs that may have sensitive information visible since I will be able to see your screen. Then click the first Accept button (circled in red)
  5. A prompt will appear asking if you would like to allow AnyDesk to make changes to your device. Select Yes. This is so that I will have administrator priveledges on your device which I may need in order to troubleshoot your computer

I will now be able to control your mouse and see your screen, but your mouse takes precedence over mine. The window above will now have a big red Disconnect button instead of the Accept and Dismiss buttons. Click this to end the session at any time, or click the blue button in the top left of the permissions section to pause my control of your mouse (circled in green). This window will need to stay open during the session. I cannot interact with this window except to minimize it. Also, on the right side of this window is the chat where we can send messages. However, it may be easier to call me than to keep typing messages so that we can communicate more clearly. My phone number is (717) 925-7893.
